the problem with film today is that it has become less of an art form and more of a business. It has always been a business, you need to make money, but it seems that is the most important thing now. Even american Beauty did horrible in its first run, it took a lot of oscar m=nominations to make it a hit. I personally love indie films now more than ever. They are not afriad to to take some risks, to show an interesting story, to have fun with the movie. They are justy in it for the srt form. That is doemthing you rarely see in big cinmema, directors like Mendes, Fincher, Jonze, Anderson they do this and there movies are all the better for it. Speilberg does it to but he is so big and his movie are done with so much professionalism that you really dont notice it. Even John Woo has fun with the camera. These are some of the directos whom I respect and love, they are the ones who shape hollywood and the ones who will pave the way for small filmmakers like us.
